Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib — the file never leaves your machine.

How does the compression work?

Each page is re-rendered as a JPEG image at the resolution and quality of the level you pick, then reassembled into a new PDF. This gives large, predictable savings — especially for scans and image-heavy files.

Will the text still be selectable?

No. Because pages are rasterised to images, text becomes part of the picture and can't be selected or searched. Use this when smaller size matters more than editable text; keep the original if you need the text layer.

Which level should I choose?

Recommended is a good balance for most files. Strong produces the smallest file with more visible quality loss, while Light keeps the most detail with a more modest size reduction.
