Counting age by hand is deceptively tricky. Months have different lengths, leap years add a day every four years, and "borrowing" days across month boundaries is easy to get wrong. A quick mental estimate is fine for casual use, but forms, eligibility checks and official documents often need the exact figure.

A few pointers to get accurate, meaningful results:

• Enter the birth date, not the age. The tool derives everything from the date, so an accurate date of birth is all it needs.
• Mind leap years. A birthday of February undefined only lands on that exact date in leap years; the calculator handles the counting correctly, but be aware of how non-leap years are treated for that edge case.
• Use the target date deliberately. Age changes by the day, so pick the exact day you care about rather than assuming "today" - especially near a birthday.
• Watch time zones for close calls. Age is measured in whole days, so if a moment falls right on midnight in a different region, confirm the calendar date you intend to use.
• Double-check for official use. For legal or medical documents, verify the exact date rules that apply, since some systems define age as of a cut-off date rather than today.
